Arm one area. Keep another open.
Still working in the office after the shop has closed? We can set up separate arming areas on a suitable system, so you don’t have to leave the whole building unprotected.
Alarm systems · Vancouver Island
Whether you’re closing up for the day or heading out from home, you want to know things are secure. We’ll help you choose an alarm that fits your property and is easy to use.
Commercial / Industrial / Institutional
Every building works a little differently. You might have staff starting early, cleaners coming in late or a warehouse that closes before the office. We’ll take the time to understand how you use the place, then work out what needs protecting.
For construction sites, suitable detection can protect enclosed offices, trailers and storage containers. We assess tamper protection, backup power and communications, and agree keyholders and reporting instructions for monitored systems. Outdoor detection is assessed for the actual site conditions.

Individual staff codes make the alarm easier to manage. With the right system and service, you can also see when it was armed or disarmed and get reports of important events.
A leak in a mechanical room or a freezer getting too warm can be costly too. We’ll talk through the extra detection you might need, including panic or hold-up buttons where appropriate.
You can give each person their own code and decide which areas they’re allowed to use. On a system with separate arming areas, the warehouse can be secured while someone finishes up in the office. We’ll name the zones clearly too, so an open back door shows up as something you recognise.
We’ll walk through the entrances, overhead doors, windows and routes through the building. A busy workshop needs different detector choices from a quiet office, especially where there’s dust, heat or machinery. In schools, clinics and community buildings, we’ll also consider how staff, cleaners and other users come and go.
Want to know whether the building was closed on time? The right reporting service can help with that. We can also discuss panic buttons, leak warnings and other alerts. Before you decide, we’ll explain what the system can report, what happens when it does and what the service costs.

Home alarm systems
You shouldn’t need a lesson every time you set the alarm. We’ll help you choose what to protect and show you how it all works, so using it becomes part of your normal routine.
Stay mode lets you move around the house while selected doors and windows remain protected. Away mode brings the planned interior detection into use as well. We’ll show you which areas are active, how much time you have to leave or get in, and what to do if you’ve left a window open.
Tell us about your pets and how your household uses each room. That helps us choose and position the detectors properly. Family members can have their own codes, and a compatible system and service can let you check or set the alarm from your phone. We’ll explain the available features and any monthly costs.
A water sensor beside the hot-water tank can give you an early warning of a leak. Temperature detection can help you keep an eye on freezing risks, while the right smoke, heat and CO detectors add other useful warnings. We’ll help you decide what makes sense and where it should go.
A wider view of protection
An alarm can warn you about more than a break-in. Here are a few other things it can keep an eye on.
Detect a door opening, glass breaking or someone moving inside.
Add detectors that warn of smoke or rising heat.
Get a warning of dangerous carbon monoxide in your home or building.
Catch a leak near a hot-water tank, plumbing or other equipment.
Use a fixed or portable button to raise an alarm when you need help.
Watch for freezing conditions or temperatures getting too high.
Detection, remote access and reporting depend on equipment compatibility and selected services. Security-system smoke and heat detection does not replace a required building fire alarm system.
Installed with care
Building, renovating or working with an older alarm? We’ll look at what’s there, explain what’s worth keeping and help you decide what to add. Once it’s installed, we’ll test it and take you through using it.
If you’re building or renovating, it’s worth talking to us before the walls close. That’s the easiest time to run wiring for detectors, keypads and sirens, choose a sensible panel location and leave room for future additions. We’ll label and test the wiring so it’s easier to work on later.
An older alarm doesn’t always need replacing. We check the panel, wiring, detectors, backup power and reporting paths, then explain what can still be used. Repairs or a few additions may be enough; compatible wireless devices can help where new wiring is difficult. Where practical, we can address faults first and plan further improvements in stages. App options and monitoring changes depend on the equipment and available support.
We can assess an alarm installed by another company and explain whether Sherwood can take over servicing or arrange compatible intrusion alarm monitoring. Check your contract, notice period and equipment ownership first. We confirm compatibility, any software or licensing needs, and coordinate the changeover and signal testing before the old service ends. Proprietary or unsupported systems may need equipment changes.
Tell us what’s installed and what you need it to do. We review operation and user permissions, confirm your authority to manage the system, and check the manufacturer’s recovery or transfer options where access is missing. Please leave passwords, alarm codes and private credentials out of your enquiry.
Send your community, a brief description of the issue and, if useful, a photo of the keypad or equipment label. We confirm availability and any assessment or travel charges before booking. After reviewing the alarm, we explain the repair, takeover or upgrade options and costs before you proceed. We help businesses, strata properties and homeowners, subject to equipment compatibility and scope.
Request alarm service ↗If you choose professional monitoring, alarm signals go to a monitoring centre. The operators follow the response instructions set up for your property. We’ll explain how that works and make sure your contact details are in place.
We’ll also explain how the alarm communicates and whether cellular backup makes sense for your location. A backup battery can keep it running for a while during a power cut. How long it lasts, and whether signals still get through, depends on the equipment, battery condition and connection.
